Yes, as the code stands PHP 4.x is not supported, because PHP 4 is getting phased out (not fast enough for most PHP developers). Let me see if I can tweak the code in that class for you to work on PHP 4. I will let you know.

Hi Pete,

I will prod the Hosting Company into installing php version 5. It's not as if it were new.

Thanks, Norman

PHP 4 End of life was announced back in June of 2007, and most major PHP projects like Joomla, bulletin, Wordpress and phpMyAdmin no longer support PHP 4 as well as MySQL 4. Going forward most DigiOz projects will target PHP 5 in order to take advantage of OOP features of it.

Your hosting company should feel obligated to upgrade at this point.

Hi Pete,

Good news. The hosting company have replied and said the following.

PHP version 4 will be used up to Q3 and after Q3 PHP version 5 will be used.

If my understanding of Q3 is correct, then it should start in about a week.

However, they provided me with the following workaround.

Create a ".htaccess" file containing the following line:

AddType x-mapp-php5 .php

Upload this file into into the root of your domain. The changes take effect immediately.

After following these instructions, I was able to post to the guestbook.

Thanks, Norman
